Coffee Cocktails

Coffee liqueurs such as Kahlua and Tia Maria are among the most popular liqueurs in the world, and are very versatile.

Kahlua is the most well-known brand, and is the second largest single liqueur brand worldwide, but it’s certainly not the only brand. Copa de Ora, DeKuyper, Godiva, Kamora, Sabroso, even Starbucks, all make liqueurs based on a neutral spirit, such as vodka. Tia Maria, on the other hand, is based on a cane spirit, similar to rum, and so has a slightly different flavor. Any of these brands will work well in the following recipes, or you can even make your own.

  • 1 part coffee liqueur

  • 2 parts vodka

Pour ingredients over ice in an old fashioned glass and serve.

White Russian

  • 1 part coffee liqueur

  • 2 parts vodka

  • light cream

Pour vodka and coffee liqueur over ice in an old fashioned glass. Top off with cream and serve.

Espresso Martini

  • 1 oz. cold espresso

  • 1 oz. white creme de cacao

  • 1.5 oz. vodka

  • 1.5 oz. coffee liqueur

Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve. (The cocktail should be slightly frothy.)

Mudslide

  • 1 oz. vodka

  • 1 oz. coffee liqueur

  • 1 oz. Irish cream liqueur

  • 1 oz. cream

Shake all ingredients with ice, and pour over ice in an old-fashioned glass.

Spanish Coffee

  • ½ oz. rum

  • fresh brewed coffee

Bahama Mama

  • ¼ oz. 151 proof rum

  • ½ oz. dark rum

  • ½ oz. coconut liqueur

  • juice of ½ lemon

  • 4 oz. pineapple juice

Combine all ingredients, and pour over cracked ice in a collins glass. Garnish with a strawberry or cherry to serve.

Blender Drinks:

Dirty Banana

  • 1 part creme de bananes

  • 1 part creme de cacao

  • 1 part coffee liqueur

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream

  • 6 ice cubes

Blend the ice cubes and ice cream in a blender until smooth. Add liqueurs and continue blending. Add more ice cream if needed for a milkshake-like consistency. Pour into a highball or hurricane glass, and serve.

Frozen Mudslide

  • 1.5 oz. vodka

  • 1.5 oz. coffee liqueur

  • 1.5 oz. Irish cream liqueur

  • 1.5 oz. cream

  • 8 ice cubes

  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream

  • 2 scoops chocolate ice cream

Crush the ice cubes in a blender. After ice is finely crushed, add remaining ingredients and blend for 45 seconds on the blender’s highest setting. Pour into a hurricane glass and serve immediately. For best results, use a premium ice cream, not ice milk!

Blushin’ Russian

  • 1 part coffee liqueur

  • ¾ part vodka

  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream

  • 3 strawberries

Combine all ingredient in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in a parfait or hurricane glass.
